As someone who has suffered with allergies and food intolerances, I found it most disheartening when friends with the best of intentions added an ingredient
to the meal that they were preparing that had disastrous consequences. For example I went round for dinner to a friends where she was cooking chilli. Now, at home, my husband usually cooks the chilli, but it is a fairly safe dish for allergy sufferers (but not vegetarians!) as most of the ingredients can be substituted. So it was without hesitation that I had said 'Chilli would be lovely, see you at 8' - sort of thing. Half an hour later, catching up in the kitchen, my husband started making eyes at the food, he came over and whispered that the unnamed cook had added a can of Heinz baked beans to the chilli and that I should say something. Well there are only so many things to say when the contents of the bean can has been fully stirred into the chilli-mix. I chose to keep quiet but the concoction of vinegar, and sugar meant I had two nights of scratching and hyperactivity. Was it worth the suffering? Well, probably not whilst I was awake scratching, but I would still do it again. My host had made so much trouble to avoid, butter and sugar and carefully sliced fruit for pudding that I hadn't the heart to say anything.
If you or your partner have ever experienced anything like the above, this book is for you.

It also includes sample recipes for diets that are wheat free, dairy free, yeast free, sugar free and nut free. Sample recipes have been taken from Difficult Diners--The Cookbook.
